Tiffany Bozic shows 'The Animal Within Us' in latest show

The Joshua Liner Gallery in Chelsea is currently presenting an alluring collection of new work by Tiffany Bozic for the show The Animal Within Us. As the title of the show suggests, Bozic unveils several paintings of animals some of which have been done on canvas, and others on maple panel. With these images, Bozic captures the similar feelings and desires that both humans and animals share and how we all struggle to survive and move through the circle of life.

One heartwarming image known as Triangle of Love emphasizes family bonding with three owls grouped together resting on a pyramid of golden four leaf clovers with a male owl on the right with his female mate snuggled beside him, both of their eyes closed, as their wide-eyed baby lies between them. Birth and transformation are popular themes as illustrated with images like The Mind’s Eye featuring the head of a bird resting in the womb with the rest of its body being formed by mice and moths, and Growth which has a glow-in-the-dark effect with two creatures representing sperm gravitating toward a cluster of flowers.

Another fascinating image known as Before Words is set on a beach with a variety of objects and creatures resting on the sand including rocks, seashells, a turtle, a small frog, a jellyfish, sticks, and a two groups of algae in the shape of two fish. One of the rocks has an opening on top emitting eggs that become sperms once they’re released in the water.

One somber image titled Death demonstrates our inevitable fate that can arrive anytime during the course of human and animal life. It depicts a lifeless baby goat surrounded by destructive insects such as scorpions, centipedes, and poison spiders. Despite the grim subject matter, a sliver of hope can be seen. “The way the light reflects off [the insects’] tiny shells reveal a glimmer in the darkness… as we consume what the environment provides to thrive, eventually our flesh will return to the earth and feed the next generations of living creature,” Bozic explains. Growing up in a rural environment in Arkansas, Bozic adopted a love and appreciation for nature that comes through in her work. Bozic now lives and works in San Francisco and has exhibited her work at numerous museums and galleries across the country.

At The Joshua Liner Gallery, 540 W. 28th St., through Apr. 16. The gallery is open Tues.—Sat. from 11 a.m.—6 p.m.
